Exquisite Moments…

To paraphrase an anonymous quote…

We do not choose to be born. We do not choose our parents.
We do not choose the time of our birth, the country of our birth,
or the immediate circumstances of our upbringing.
We do not, most of us, choose to die;
nor do we choose the time and conditions of our death.
But within this realm of choicelessness….
we do choose how we live.

Long ago I learned that life is not one long “spectacular, glamorous event”… it is not one big party, or living on the crest of a wave. It is not about chasing instant gratification or eternal bliss….

It is about appreciating the special moments… the exquisite moments in life. Sadly… most people are usually too busy chasing the aforementioned to even notice them…let alone truly appreciate them. Yet… these are life’s real treasures. Those moments in time… the exquisite moments !

Beautiful weather, like being in love, is a philosopher’s stone which turns our ordinary days to gold. But not the whole day … For it is never the whole day, never all our life which is transformed in any happiness, but only the exquisite moments.

  4. Hi Michael, I have just discovered your beautiful blog, I wrote a post about Santorini inspired by a TV program which brought back happy memories of time spent their in the eighties Paula popped on and left a comment informing me of your blog, so here I am!

I could not agree more with the sentiments in this post and am looking forward to making the time to go through your archives.

Wishing you a wonderful New Year

  5. Wow amazing view!!

  6. Happy January, Michael! And happy moments! It only takes one thing to make each moment exquisite, appreciating it! It’s living in that moment. It’s the old “smell the roses” cliche. Just a short second of appreciation lights each moment with magic and beauty and fills it with the extraordinary suchness that makes memory so vivid and beautiful.
    Thank you for reminding us!

  7. Caro Michael,
D’accordo! But there should be no regrets, finding the meaning of life when you are about to age. “Heureka” is magic, whenever. And once your eyes are opened, you do not want to close them again. Thanks (again) for your wise words, Michael! Bacione, Ingrid from a sunny Umbria

  8. Thank for these exquisite image and quotes!
I bet spring is arriving in your parts of the world.
